COM 251: Reading Response Assignments
What is a reading response?
A Reading Response is not a summary of your reading. A Reading Response is a way of writing or talking about your thinking about the reading, or your reaction(s) to a reading. A Reading Response is not a formal paper or speech, but should be well thought-out, fully developed, and carefully composed, nevertheless. It should demonstrate not only that you have carefully read the text, but also that you have thought carefully about the text and engaged with it in some way.
An effective Reading Response will demonstrate that you have thoroughly read and understood the reading (or that you ask questions that reveal careful reading). It might develop connections between the reading and the themes of the course or discussions we’ve had in the discussion forums. In general, it demonstrates that you have considered the implications of the readings.
Be specific about the work you’re discussing, provide details from the text to back up any assertions you may make by quoting directly from the text/outside sources, and finally, pay attention to grammar and mechanics. If you’re stuck, look back at some of the common discussions that have been taking place on the discussion boards. Try linking these topics back to the readings and apply that to what we have discussed so far.
Length and Requirements
Each response should be between 750 and 1200 words. It is an additional challenge to be able to condense all of your thoughts into this brief format. I need help writing my essay – research paper turn in a Word or PDF document to Brightspace (I cannot open .pages)
Other tidbits:
· I need help writing my essay – research paper cite materials from the text, or outside readings/sources that you’ve read/watched/listened to. Make sure you’re citing the page or website you’ve found them on. Although I am most familiar with Ace homework tutors – APA format, as long as you cite the material in some format (for example, Cybersecurity typically uses Ace homework tutors – APA, while engineering more often uses IEEE), I’m okay with it.
When are reading responses due?
· They are due Sunday by 11:59:59pm (Eastern Daylight Time), and cover the readings/topics discussed from the previous unit.
