The first thing I would need to do when using the Cognitive and Behavioral Theory (CBT) with Sam would be to learn more about Sam. I would start by asking questions such as:
-What does he think lead him to become homeless?
-Is there any medical issues that could be related to him being a veteran?

-How does he think he could change his situation?
-How is he coping with being a veteran?
From this line of questioning, I would have a better understanding of Sam’s thought process and help me as his worker to redirect any negative thinking which could lead to him feeling more confident and willing to change his current situation.
