‘”The Purpose of Racism Is To Control the Behavior of White People Not Black or Other Colors, For Blacks guns and tanks, are sufficient.”
Racism is a term well-acknowledged to identify a specific race that is inferior in a discriminating manner. In the context of the definition, history dictates that the whites are more likely to feel superior compared to other races. From colonization to slavery, the events provide concrete evidence of white’s profound nature of supremacy. The quotation clearly showcases an element of sarcasm in the eyes of inferior communities. The essay, therefore, disagrees with the statement and offers a solid argument about the quotation is mere sarcasm.
First and foremost, the quotation suggests that the idea of racism, should itself make white people feel guilty and avoid racial profiling. In the essence that, racism itself should deprive white people of exhibiting their superiority and make them behave by accommodating the less inferior. Being naturally narcissists’ racism is meant to make them behave, but regularly, the whites cannot view other races in equal measures. Sarcastically, the blacks being associated with violence, need guns to behave. Believing that the black community are naturally violent, offers enough reasons to use firearms and tanks to ensure they act amicably. It’s only another picture painted of a black community that can only corporate through gunpoint.
Racism can never stop but only minimized, since history cannot be erased, it remains embedded in our hearts. James Baldwin’s letter to his cousin exhibits the torture and tribulations that the black community was exposed to in the 1960s. Yet it is more than 50 years after, and racism remains to be a debatable topic. In the letter, James Baldwin explains how he fears his smaller cousin upbringing, in a country that sees black people not worth existence (Baldwin). The only thing to smile about is the moments he had with his brother and remains fearful of the future that beholds his cousin. Baldwin remembers words Charles Dickens described nearly a hundred years ago in London that clearly exhibit the situation they are currently suffering. The result only explains that racism is passed from generation to generation, whites proving hard to behave.
As earlier noted in the essay, racism is an act of discriminating against a particular race. It’s not always a matter of blacks and whites, in racism, but both parties represent extreme ends. Jean uses racial triangulation to locate the position Asian Americans are in racial profiling. Acknowledging that Whites represent the topmost level while the black and the most inferior race, while Asian Americans represent the middle level. Racial triangulation enabled whites to get more labor for work and used Asian Americans to maintain their white dominance (Jean 107). Through Asian Americans, white would be able to disseminate technical knowledge and information as they were considered more intellectual than blacks solving a temporary economic crisis. However, the decision made by whites to give Asian Americans a position of power in their roles was only advantageous to them (Jean 110). Despite the dissemination of functions through Civic Ostracism, the whites viewed the Asian Americans still as their inferiors.
In racism, it’s always the white’s supremacy against all other races, not necessarily black communities. Jean argues that the Whites viewed the Chinese, not any superior, as at times, they would denigrate Chinese immigrants. For instance, the Whites imposed specific laws that deprived blacks of specific civic rights and applied the same rules to the Chinese (Jean 127). Additionally, on other occasions, Chinese immigrants were referred to a term coolie same as blacks despite being involuntary workers. At times, the whites would view the Chinese as lazy, irresponsible, and dishonest, the same attributes that were also linked to the black community. Even though the Chinese had a distinctive skillset and color, the whites always viewed the two communities as the same and inferior.
Baldwin, in his letter to his cousin, articulates the position white supremacy has left for blacks to occupy, mediocrity. He laments that the limits to ambitions of a black man are decided by the white person (Baldwin). To an extent, blacks are forced to settle for mediocrity and neglect excellence. Contextualizing the quotation offers a somewhat same meaning. The life of a black person cannot extend beyond gunpoint, and for them to behave, force must be used. Making peace with mediocrity, according to James Baldwin, is settling for what the white person decides for you. In as much as racism is the root of all evil, white supremacy is designing it as an instrument to install goof behavior amongst the white people. Baldwin’s sentiments through the letter describe the life of a black person who cannot aspire for more or dream as his future is already decided for.
The majority of American homicides are of black communities. Frequent in ghettos, black neighborhoods are either being killed or killing one another. Baldwin, in his letter, implies that a black person born in the ghetto was not intended to go far (Baldwin). As born in that surrounding, they will perish in that environment or prosper to the limits set by the white person. Guns put to their disposal for behavior is only a clear illustration of ghetto life. The quotation of Robin Kelly provides a picture of ghetto life in a black community where the order is reinstated through force and gunshots. As Baldwin explains to his cousin, the black community is meant to grow and die in the ghetto and never go beyond; reinstating behavior through gunpoint is the best way to achieve that.
Crenshaw, Gotanda, and Peller’s article magnifies the white supremacy, deeming the white color as an asset or property (Crenshaw, Gotanda, and Peller 278). In what is insanely unfair, the white skin opens up opportunities for prosperity and success. Contrary to James Baldwin’s view of a black community destined for a ghetto life or death Crenshaw et al. explains how being white is the root of success. Blacks were also considered as assets but to be owned. The difference between the white and black is that for whites, their value was for freedom, but for blacks, it was explicitly meant for ownership. In such circumstances, the cost for the property was different, and it all depended on the specific needs (Crenshaw, Gotanda and Peller 280). White supremacy was excess as they created the value for different human beings. As a result, being narcists, a white person had the will to free and took advantage of other races in racial capitalism.

Racial capitalism comes about through the superficial means of assigning value to other races that are not whites to be exploited (Kelly). The result eradicates any meaningful social reform that would have intended to arrive from the practice. Racial capitalism would never exist in an idealistic society. However, given the greed and level of racism by white supremacists, it proves to be close to impossible to avoid racial capitalism (Kelley). As the process of deriving value from a specific race remains to be a profoundly problematic practice, white supremacists had no practicing it. Therefore arguing that racism will make white supremacists behave is only a hasty judgment with little or no basis.
Whites are well known to deploy racial capitalism from history to present times. From time immemorial, black and other communities are always viewed as objects of work. From cotton firms to building infrastructure, white supremacists have deprived the black community development at the expense of building their economies. However, critics argue that through working for the whites, the black and other communities were able to grasp the critical knowledge and skills they would deploy to their advantage. The effect, however, is more intense on racial capitalism as a void in development will be created, in which the affected party will take years to fill.
Racial capitalism, whiteness and economic growth are three terms that go hand in hand. The whites in America for instance deployed muscle power from the black community to build the economy of the whites and America in general. However, as the time black resistance brought about US civil war the whites chose to protect their image as opposed to be named as equal to the black communities. In protecting its supremacism, the whites wished to remain poor as opposed to be viewed as equals to the black communities. As they no longer had people to work in their mines or cotton firms, white people swore never to be equals to the black communities. Such magnitudes indicate the level of disgust the whites felt for the blacks and the trend did not stop any time soon after the wars.
In conclusion, the context of the quotation appeared as mere sarcasm, and different authors through their research have articulated the position white supremacists play in racism. In essence, that racism will never be a tool to make whites behave as the sense of supremacy is embedded in them. On the contrary, they would pursue in the direction they deem is right and in any case, unapologetic for their nature. On the positive side, considerable success has been achieved in minimizing racism, and it’s only a matter of time before we can all view each other as equals. But as of now, effective parameters should be put in place and impose heavy penalties against racism. It would embarks by actively participating in anti-racism platforms and initiatives in workplaces, sports and the environment in general.
