Strategies for disseminating EBP

As your EBP skills grow, you may be called upon to share your expertise with others. While EBP practice is often conducted with unique outcomes in mind, EBP practitioners who share their results can both add to the general body of knowledge and serve as an advocate for the application of EBP.

Two dissemination strategies that I would be most inclined to use are unit-level presentations and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Unit-level presentations would allow me to directly share my findings and evidence-based practice recommendations with the team members who will be responsible for implementing them. This approach would allow me to gain buy-in from key stakeholders, address any concerns or questions they may have, and provide support for the implementation process. Additionally, unit-level presentations would also provide an opportunity to provide ongoing training and education to ensure that the practice change is sustained over time.

Publication in peer-reviewed journals would be another strategy that I would be inclined to use because it would provide a platform to share my findings and recommendations with a larger audience of healthcare professionals. By publishing in a peer-reviewed journal, I would also be able to reach other EBP practitioners who may be interested in implementing similar practice changes in their own organizations. This would help to build the general body of knowledge on the topic and could contribute to the dissemination of effective EBP across the healthcare industry.

Two dissemination strategies that I would be least inclined to use are local, regional, state, and national level podium presentations and poster presentations. This is because these strategies are less targeted and may not reach the specific audience that would be most impacted by the practice change. Additionally, these strategies are less effective to convey the complexities of the EBP project, and may not allow for in-depth questions and conversations.

Two barriers that I might encounter when using the dissemination strategies I am most inclined to use are lack of buy-in from key stakeholders and lack of resources to support implementation. To overcome these barriers, I would first work to build support for the practice change by involving key stakeholders in the implementation process and providing education and training on the evidence supporting the practice change. Additionally, I would work to secure the necessary resources to support implementation by identifying potential funding sources and building partnerships with other organizations or individuals who may be able to provide support.

Disseminating EBP is an ongoing process that requires ongoing engagement with the stakeholders and audience, and a comprehensive plan to overcome the barriers that are encountered.
