The video compares the sheep kidney anatomy as it relates to the human urinary system. The video compares the two systems including various parts such as two kidneys, two ureters, one urinary bladder, and one urethra (Owen, 2017). According to the video, the two systems have two functions such as removing waste such as urea from the body and maintain the electrolyte and the acid-base (Owen, 2017). One of the products of the function is the urine which contains pale yellow fluid containing water, urea, sodium, potassium, phosphate, and urine gas, calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonate ions. The video demonstrates the importance of the kidney in the body.
The video demonstrates an image of the kidney with other parts such as the ureter, renal artery, and renal vein. It demonstrates various parts including renal capsule, renal cortex, renal medulla, renal pyramids, and renal pelvis (Owen, 2017). The capsule is a thin outer layer that covers the kidney. It explains how the kidney functions including the movement of the fluid from the renal pyramids to the renal pelvis and the ureter (Owen, 2017). The video shows that the movement of the fluid through millions of nephrons is crucial for the filtration process.
The anatomy shows an image demonstrating the function of the kidney including the renal cortex and renal medulla. It shows other parts of the kidney that are important in fulfilling the function of the kidney (Owen, 2017). Some of the important parts of the kidney include the renal pelvis, collecting duct, glomerulus, cortical nephron, juxtamedullary nephron, and Bowman’s capsule (Owen, 2017). The demonstration is a clear explanation of how the kidney functions to remove waste from the body and maintain a standard level of electrolytes.
