As highlighted in Chapter 9 of your course text, three research methods are available (descriptive, analytic, and evaluative). Discuss these methods and give one example of how each would be used when conducting research using homeless individuals as subjects. Analyze regulatory, accreditation, ethical, and legal issues and challenges related to each research method.
Your initial contribution should be 250 to 300 words in length. Your research and claims must be supported by your course text and at least one other scholarly source.
Regulatory, Legal, Ethical, and Accreditation Issues in Research
The three research methods including descriptive, analytic, and evaluative methods are important and reliable conducting research related to vulnerable populations. While using homeless people as subjects, descriptive research emphasizes on the identification of the individuals at risk and the methods of the identification of groups and their needs. For example, the descriptive approach would identify the youths at a high level of risks for hunger due to them being homeless (Gray, 2013). On the other hand, analytic method emphasizes on the identification of the reasons for the vulnerabilities and potential ways of preventing the vulnerabilities. For example, it would identify the reasons why the young people are at the risk of being homeless. Some of the reasons include the higher level of poverty in the society. Evaluative research is focused on the determination of the success of the current programs, which seek to offer services to the vulnerable individuals. For example, the evaluative approach asks research question such as what initiatives are effective in dealing with the current needs of homelessness.
The regulatory, accreditation and ethical issues should be adhered to in the conducting of research in descriptive, analytic, and evaluative research methods. The institutional review board has relevant regulations, which calls for the review of the evaluative research. It is important for the researchers to obtain informed consent from the homeless subjects. Such review would help in monitoring the compliance with the different regulations on the privacy of subjects. In term of ethical issues, descriptive and analytic research methods should protect the vulnerable persons in the society (Mertens, 2014: 2024 – Essay Writing Service | Write My Essay For Me Without Delay). The research methods must provide an additional safeguard to uphold the rights and subjects. Regarding legal aspects, the research participants must adhere to the legal guidelines of content and protecting the privacy. As a result, the descriptive, analytic, and evaluative research methods require the ethical, legal and accreditation rules to function appropriately.
