psychology discussion board

Essays (30% of final grade): You will write three essays. Each essay is worth 10% of your grade. These brief papers are designed to help you develop an evidence-based perspective on topics in human sexuality.

Prompts for each essay are provided in the syllabus. There are four essay choices listed. You must complete three out of the four essays. If there is a topic you are not comfortable addressing, please skip that topic and choose another one, or contact the instructor for an alternate assignment. Additional guidelines include the following:

  • Essays should beno more than 750 words each.
  • Each essay must end withtwo discussion questions that you pose to your classmates. The discussion questions should prompt other students to thoughtfully consider aspects the psychological, scientific, public health, and other scholarly aspects of the information you covered. Consider what questions lingered for you while writing your paper, and share those questions with your peers.
  • Essays are due on the Tuesday of their assigned week
  • Essays must be turned in by 1) giving a printed copy to the instructor in class, and 2) posting it in LEARN for discussion. Essays must be submitted throughbothmethods.
  • LEARN posting will be done under “Discussion Boards.” A forum has been created for each of the essay topics. Each forum has 2 separate groups, with approximately 6-7 students in each group (Group A and B). Your group assignment is available under the course materials. You will be in the same discussion group, with the same peers, for all papers. You willnot be working with the students in your group on writing your essay. You will be interacting with the students in your group for discussing the essays in your group.

LEARN Discussion of Essays (10% of final grade): Using LEARN, every week that a essay is due you should read and comment on all of the essays written by the fellow students in your group, by responding to a discussion question posed in the paper and/or sharing other scholarly reactions to the essay. You will be graded on the thoughtfulness of your responses. Dates for discussion responses are included in the syllabus; forums will close one week after essays after due.
