Assignment Title: Project Initiation Document for PureFitness

Description of the assignment:
PureFitness is a Gym in the Hatfield area that are currently operating and opens at 7am and closes at 10pm 7 days a week. With the growing number of 24 hour gyms in the area, they have decided to convert their gym to a 24 hour operation. Currently, when members come to the gym, they have a membership card that they swipe at a barrier to enter. There is a reception desk by the barriers which is manned at all times currently. With the 24 hour gym, an alternative entry method will be needed for hours outside of the current opening hours (10pm – 7am) as it is not planned to have the manned reception area for 24 hours. This entry needs to be secure and try and ensure that non-members cannot enter the gym.

Additionally, as part of this change Purefitness would like to redecorate, refit and refurbish their group exercise studio. This room needs to have a new air conditioning system installed as it is faulty and needs a new floor and needs to be painted again. This room also needs new equipment such as steps, hand weights, bars and bar weights, exercise mats and yoga mats as the current ones are ready to be replaced. The group exercise studio has a capacity of 25 people at any one time so equipment for 30 should be purchased. No other structural work is needed here.

In order to minimise the impact of these changes to existing members, it is planned that most of the work for this project will take place over a 2 month period starting from 1st January 2021 with the facility being kept open at all times. The 2 month project period will need to cover all of the activities required from the research into 24 hour security systems and sourcing contractors for this and the exercise studio refurbishment as well as completing all of the work required to the required health and safety standards. It will also include all of the testing and health and safety checks required and needs to be ready to open as a 24 hour gym on the 1st March 2021.

As part of this assignment, you will work in groups of 2 or 3 to produce part of a Project Initiation Document (PID) for this project.

Your group work will contain the core elements of a Project Initiation Document (PID) and will need to include all of the activities required to successfully complete this project. The requirements of the project have been provided above. I need help writing my essay – research paper consider security around the access to the gym especially in the hours it will not be staffed.

The scope of your project includes planning, sourcing and completing the work identified above and you are not responsible for any marketing activities or operational issues past 28th Feb 2021.

The PID will be presented to your project sponsor in November 2020 with the project implementation period being from 2nd January 2021 – 28th Feb 2021. The new 24 hour gym with the refurbished exercise studio should be ready to be opened on 1st March 2021

Assumptions

a) A rate of £250 per day needs to be applied for any external contractors used.
b) A rate of £100 per day will be applied for any of the project team who work for PureFitness
c) Other sensible assumptions need to be established and listed in the assumptions section and you can assume all planning permissions needed for this project have been approved.
