1. “I need help writing my essay – research paper describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the university.”

Need for excellent preparation for effective citizenship, and an inclusive political participation within my local community, and globally is a constant that has weighed more heavily on my conscience than it has for others. Being from Ukraine, a perennially volatile region of the world, the consequences of global uncooperation, poor multilateralism and unmatched geopolitical participation has come to have a direct impact in defining my life, as it has increasingly resulted in conflict occurrences that disrupt social order due to significance political failures. These failures have propagated instability and become a threat not only to my country but the whole region at large. This has been even more significant in the last seven years, as parts Ukraine descended into conflict, and largely affected the economic, social, and political value system in my country. These events, have played an effective role in shaping my life and increasingly angled me towards political science as a tool for access to better leadership. I realized that to make a significance difference, a Major in Political Science and Legal Studies would effectively place me on the trajectory to understanding the political phenomena, and deepen my human understanding of the forms and nature of political action. This would all be key in developing a theoretical tool for interpreting politically meaningful events and creating workable policies for my society. After the completion of my Master’s degree in Law from Ukraine, I had the wonderful opportunity of interning in the Committee of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Parliament, where I was instantly plunged into the world of politics and had firsthand effects into the consequences of good political policy formulations. In this regard, I chose to further partake in an Associate’s Degree for Transfer in Political Science at Santa Monica College, and have a 3.96 GPA. I also completed GER and major requirements classes such as, Comparative politics, International Politics, Political Philosophy, National & Californian government, Introduction to Public Policy, all of which effectively position me with insight and knowledge into the wonderful field of Political Science. A chance to participate with my studies at your institution will offer me with effective perspective and knowledge, as well as allow me to have meaningful collaborative sessions that will generally work to boost my position.

2. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time.

During my studies at Santa Monica College, my professor was invited to an opening on sociology research programs that was aimed at investigating areas of social dysfunction within the local community. A rising case of domestic violence had led the local district leadership to contend that there was a need to evaluate why the offenders were always reestablishing a connection with their victims after being reprimanded, leading to a rising case of recidivism. In this case study, 50% of the victims were willing to forgive their attackers, which led to domestic violence’s recurrence. This was a very important social issue plaguing my adopted society and, in this regard, posing a great risk to its members and the political organizations had failed to act, especially in low income areas, and among the homeless of Santa Monica. I was compelled to study it to understand the cause and effect. To realize a subjective insight into the social-political problem, and gain research skills, I volunteered to help with data acquisition. I was looking forward to the experience of learning how the socialization process was manifested within the context of domestic violence and the dangers it posed within the community. I was offered a leadership position within a research team. My goal was to coordinate the team to establish how social influence and past experiences promoted violence, the nature and extent of violence within the community to derive a working theoretical policy. While I initially thought the position was straight forward, I soon realized that it was more tasking than I conceptualized. As a leader, I needed to review a large number of perspective and decide what was the more effective causal relationship of domestic abuse recurrence. I emphasized on collaboration to create an effective and inclusive solution that worked and maintained participation by all. This was a challenging process, but with greater coordination and listening skills I had learned, the diverse team members and I achieved better interaction with the course material. I was able to conceptualize my role as a leader and create meaningful decision-making skills that worked to establish cooperation and show me the essence of leadership, which will help me in conducting research and collaborative work as an undergraduate.

3. “Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?”

Education is a process that situates an individual with insight and places them in a position of influence with the ability to plan and think critically. It gives them the capacity to make decision that influence others to enhance their contribution to the realization of an shared social, economic, political and cultural goal. I have always valued education as a breaker of barriers and key social enabler. After accomplishing my postgraduate degree in Law back in Ukraine, I was immediately ushered into the job market and the prospects were looking great. Sadly, this was not to be the case for the long term as my ability to practice were soon thwarted by the budding geopolitical conflict. A collapse in government resulted in a civil war and made the job market less accessible for beginners. While I had an opportunity to work, it was not stable, and I was faced with a dilemma on whether to move abroad or remain in Ukraine. I participated in the Green Card Lottery Scheme and was luckily chosen to move to the USA. I had to lose my opportunity in Ukraine to kickstart a life afresh in the USA. While I was glad for the prospect that a new life brought, I was immediately confronted with the new realities of re-enrolling through school, in a foreign country, with a very different culture to my own, and more importantly different language. Furthermore, I had left my home and family, and the adjustment period, to say the least, was very hard. As a first generation immigrant with a law degree and limited ability to communicate in English, I soon realized that it would be very hard to find a suitable job in my specific field. Initially, I was employed as an assistant Russian speaking lawyer at the Law Offices of Marina Ayzenstein in 2016: 2024 – Do my homework – Help write my assignment online, but I soon realized that in order to progress in my career and attain the American Dream, learning the language and an American diploma would be necessary. I had to realign my goals, and became more focused on studies, I enrolled into an ESL class, started to be more socially outwards in order to boost my spoken English. So far they have allowed me to excel in my classes, and availed me the opportunity to apply for a transfer to an undergraduate program in your institution.

4. What have you done to make your school or your community a better place?

Community is one of the greatest pillars of our society today since it helps cultivate the people we become. Coming from Ukraine, I have come to appreciate the role of the community in my upbringing since it played a great role in shaping my character and teaching me that material possession is not the only thing that matters in this world, rather, it’s the ability for it to act on a given subject to make the community a better place. During the summer vacation I would apply most of the limited resources I had with me into performing various community services since I believe in the role of the community to make the society inherently good. I worked as a volunteer and helped the orphanage sell goods and services and feed the homeless. I also participated at a food bank to distribute food to homeless, in our city specifically because the homelessness epidemic was on the increase going to unimaginable levels. Doing the small I could to help them motivated me. I have also taken part, as a part time volunteer for the White Pony to organize clothes. Here we collected clothes that were no longer of use to their current owners and gave them to people who could not afford any clothes. I have also volunteered for the Project by NAMI DVC. This is a project that offered underserved school-age children the capacity to participate in school programs by offering free education access. These projects were a great learning experience for me, as they provided me with a subjective perspective and realities of the less fortunate within my adopted society. As a community of volunteers, we helped Santa Monica clean the sand from the playground of school kids, we swept fallen leaves and trash, and did the best we could to achieve a cleaner community. During my time as a volunteer I got to interact with hundreds of people, collect their ideas and share mine. This expanded my perspective and also helped me learn a lot about the American society. I came to understand the importance of diversity by volunteering in the community.
