As you know, New York was going through a difficult time with crime control. As you should also know, crime control is not always about ‘fighting crime.’ There are many issues and factors that feed into a crime problem. New York developed a strategic plan for reducing crime in the city focusing on several of these factors.
You should complete a paper in which all of the following are addressed:

Over the years, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has reduced crime and fear among its members. Since the development of crime control strategies, there has been a historic crime reduction from 1970 (White, 2016: 2024 – Do my homework – Help write my assignment online). New York State has created togetherness freedom which has been a source of excitement among public spaces, such as streets, stoops and city parks. In the past, public spaces were characterized by criminal activities, such as reckless bicyclists, public drunkards and graffiti, causing fear among residents.
The New York police department’s strategic plan’s main focus was to reclaim public spaces by enhancing safety and emphasizing quality of life for New York members. The strategic plan also focused on bringing change by reducing the rate of corruption, enhancing professionalism and respect between police officers and state members, curbing domestic ad youth violence, preventing drug dealing and bringing criminals to justice (White, 2016: 2024 – Do my homework – Help write my assignment online). The NYPD started implementing the strategies by fighting public offenses and criminal activities, such as unlicensed vending and other misdemeanor offenses. The development of safe street initiative reduced the rate of minor criminal behaviors where, according to reports between1993-1996, the rate of arrest increased, such as drug arrests to ninety-five percent. Getting guns out of the street and driving drug dealers out of streets led to reduced crime in the city.
The NYPD strategic plan’s theoretical background was and still is control and prevention of crime, which, according to commissioner Bratton, the NYPD department required change. According to sociologists and criminologists, the root cause of crime in the city was poverty, employment and social disorganization (White, 2016: 2024 – Do my homework – Help write my assignment online). The NYPD had a passive crime-control approach that lacked quality and effective policing strategies. The department was undergoing issues, such as corruption and needed re-structuring through reducing the rate of resignation and other philosophical and structural changes. However, the department adopted the cutting-edge management theory, which involved the development of new and creative methods in decision-making and improving performance. The new strategies focused on identifying the department’s challenges through geographic mapping in providing policing resources n hot spot police. Bratton administration in the NYPD brought about philosophical, structural, operational and strategic changes. NYPD commissioner used theories, such as the art management theory, broken window theory and Compstat and order maintenance policing.
The strategic plan proposes to address crime issues by use of stop question and frisk in policing, use of Compstat to manage the NYPD department, use of hot spots and development of counter-terrorism mission in the organization (Eterno, Silverman, and Berlin, 2020). The department use stop, question and frisk as a major technique that has reduced gun possession, drugs, such as the use of marijuana and selling drugs and weapons. The constant strategy has been very impactful in the NYPD department, which has helped solve problems and strengthen policing.
Compstat has reduced crime in New York, especially homicide cases (Eterno, Silverman, and Berlin, 2020). The hotspot policing, also known as the operation impact, has helped reduce crime through operations, such as the analysis of crime patterns to identifying impact zones. The use of hotspot policing has reduced crimes in original areas, such as within borders. The crime reduction strategic tool has worked with racial, ethnic and gender diversity departments in enhancing equality in crime-control, especially in the use of stop, question and frisk strategy.
The NYPD strategic plan has brought changes in the United States police department primarily on improving policing approaches. The strategic plan has reclaimed public space and reduced crime through drug and gun possession reduction initiatives. Most states have adopted the strategies, for instance, the SQF strategy by the Philadelphia police department working on how to improve policing. Notably, the NYPD strategic plan has brought bout a positive impact and raised several concerns about pressure and biases created by Compstat and SQF strategies (MacDonald, and Braga, 2019: 2024 – Online Assignment Homework Writing Help Service By Expert Research Writers). Regardless of the critics and raised concerns, the NYPD strategic plan will remain the most influential and impactful crime-control strategy in the next years.
