Homeostasis is achieved through “feedback” mechanisms which allows for careful adjustment of the amount of hormone to keep things balanced. If you take Medical Terminology (which is a helpful course for all students) you will learn that “hypo” is a prefix which means “low” and “hyper” is a prefix which means “above/high”, and, of course, here it is speaking to the amount of the hormone. Disease states occur when the amount of a hormone is too high or too low. For example, the blood glucose medical term is “glycem” “ia” is a condition, so putting them all together creates the word “hyperglycemia” which, you got it, means too much sugar in the blood. The common name for this is “diabetes”. People can also suffer from “hypoglycemia” which means too little sugar in the blood. For this assignment you will choose five of the hormones you have been learning about.

·  Produce a chart that contrasts the diseases caused by too much and too little of each of the five hormones.
