My Goals, Vison, Mission and Outcomes Expected from Walden University

My name is xxxxx and I have been a Registered Nurse for about 16 years and an LVN for 4 years. I have worked in a hospital setting and skilled nursing home facility. During all that time, I have encountered many people that have significantly influenced my career and personal life along the way. Whether it was a patient, a co-worker or a colleague, it was those same people that helped me grow and had a crucial impact in my life. Some of these people helped me improve as a professional such as learning from my colleagues, and from others who inspired me to seek greater academic challenges such as this one now. The vision for Walden mentions that learning is a community where knowledge is judged worthy to the degree that it can be applied and used for the greater global good (Walden University, 2020b). I too believe that through every work and personal experience there are things that have led me to where I am now. Though I have much to learn, I am eager and determined to get the professional growth and development that is required through higher level of education. I envision that8 through gaining more knowledge and experiences, I can better serve as a scholar practitioner. The mission of Walden is to offer a diverse and core curriculum that is challenging and can be applied to any set of ideas, creativity and problem solving which I strongly believe nursing consists of and thrives on. (2020b). My goal is to be able to provide my patients with the best integrative care possible with the collaboration of various diverse health care providers. In order to achieve this, I must seek the best education and experience using the most up to date research data and pursuing all aspects of social, professional and academic networks. (Walden University, 82020a). Professional and academic networking are valuable in nursing. A social network that consists of social interactions and personal relationships makes us compassionate and helps us relate to others, while a professional network keeps us advancing and learning in our careers. As nurses our central role in patient care is maintaining current knowledge and trends in our careers which makes advancements imperative, and that is what I hope to achieve in this program (Schmidt, K)

Adapting to Social Changes in Nursing

As a student I feel that I lack the experience required to feel comfortable with the social changes that are important in nursing which increase awareness and better understanding in a community. Walden University can help me face and address the many social changes that occur in this fast paced and constantly changing medical field. I believe that social changes are a part of life that can transform, influence and affect others (Walden University, 2020b). Through elaborate research, integration and collaboration with my peers, will come positive social change that can help me become a better skilled and scholar practitioner. For me technology has been part of a huge social change that has dramatically influenced nursing. It has also been a barrier that was keeping me from seeking a higher level of education due to the fear of the advancements and unfamiliarity with all the updates. I am one of the many few people that is not comfortable with social media and networking. I have witnessed people become irreparably impacted by technology and social media and at the same time I have seen many prosper and become more confident because of it. Despite my own fears, I am learning that social changes including networking has become the new norm for career advancement and that interrelationships can significantly help me improve as a novice nurse and as an emerging professional (Schmidt, K). In becoming more open minded and willing to accept social changes, I will be able to broaden my knowledge and improve my skills which will help me become a competent family nurse practitioner one day.

Academic Goals and Outcomes

I am confident and drawn to Walden University because they offer a flexible learning experience and highly educational curriculum that suits all aspects of my personal and work life. It allows me the flexibility to work and pursue my education while at the same time being able to take care of my family and home. The Walden Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner program resonates in me the best as it will allow me to care for a diverse group of people in all age groups. This program addresses the many societal changes that will help me understand how health is affected overall as a community (Walden University, 2020a). In turn this will make me a better health care provider. Furthermore, as an added gain, I will be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate using audience-specific oral, written, and information technology for professional delivery of a specialist nursing care (Walden University, 2020b). Through this program I am hoping to attain the learning outcomes it promises to students such as preparing me to focus and practice on the needs of society, become a leader in my field through scholarship, influence the quality of patient care, manage technology and information, gain autonomy, and develop a lifelong commitment to learning (Walden University, 2020b).

I enjoyed reading about yourself and I, too, have not been the most up-to-date and comfortable with social media/networking. I must say that after having recently worked along side a nurse that is an influencer, I realized that social media is a helpful tool. My colleague has thousands of followers that watch and share her posts about life and struggles of new nurses and nursing students. Nurse.org (2018: 2024 – Write My Essay For Me | Essay Writing Service For Your Papers Online) suggests using hashtags on Instagram or Twitter as an easy tool to help find other users to network with that have similar interests. I personally have found many pages on social media that share knowledge on becoming a nurse practitioner, different programs, and securing a job.

While I believe in moving forward with technology and using social media as a networking tool, I also came across an organization when I started my graduate coursework that offers free membership for nurse practitioner students. Texas Nurse Practitioners (2020) advocates for Texans to be able to have access to the quality care nurse practitioners can provide by supporting, advancing, and promoting their role. They also have a networking forum to connect students to preceptors across the state. I saw in your response to one of our peers that you live in Texas and thought this would be a great resource for you.
