Migrants and prostitutes face a high risk of trafficking and coercion for numerous reasons. First migrants and prostitutes think that they cannot report the mistreatment to the authorities because of their illegal status. The nature of the both groups suggests that they have to operate under the glare of the public. To that extent, there is a limitation of policing and oversight of the law. Additionally, feminized works such as prostitution occur privately. Therefore, the likelihood of exposure to the media or authorities is low.
lndividuals involved in trafficking operate under international criminal associations and that makes them very powerful. Migrants and the prostitutes have to submit to the authority of the criminals for protection from law enforcement. Such individuals are desperate for any form of reprieve in the first world countries. Therefore, they are quick to board boats to unknown destinations with strangers in the promise of a better life. However, the transporters turn to human traffickers and they pass on the individuals to the highest bidders for exploitation. ln capitalistic societies, low socio-economic dispositions provide an avenue for exploitation by criminals.
Question #3 Trade in humans is not unique to a specific part of the world. Human trafficking is a global challenge because international syndicates run it. Therefore, the root cause of trafficking is also similar in distinct parts of the world. ln Eastern Europe and lndia, an increase in poverty levels is the main catalyst of trafficking. lndividuals are not able to secure meaningful forms of employment. Migration to countries where they can secure employment appears to be the best option for the population.
For both lndia and the Eastern European countries, a global collaborative effort is the best way to combat human trafficking. lndividual countries need to improve vigilance on the border points and Seas. Additionally, a joint database to track the apprehension of the human traffickers can help the law enforcement authorities. Additionally, the countries involved need to educate their populations on the risks of human trafficking through the dubious migration routes. lndia and the Eastern European countries are also improving the vetting of individuals involved in immigration. However, in Eastern Europe the concern of stopping human trafficking mainly targets women exploitation.
