Health Disparities among Koreans in the United State

Apart from racial and ethnicity, there are many aspects used to measure the dimension of disparity in the healthcare sector. Among these aspects include culture, social-economic status, political aspects, and literacy level among others. In the United State, the health issue is addressed at a diverse perspective with regard to the cultural and ethnic differences of the country’s population (National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities, 2016: 2024 – Do my homework – Help write my assignment online). For instance, The Koreans are among the major victims of disparity impacts especially on the issues concerning health. Koreans form the minority group of the Asian American Community which mainly receives a high level of discrimination in accessing healthcare services (Musselman, Yeon-Shim, Yee-Melichar, & Yoo, 2015 – Research Paper Writing Help Service). However, there is a need to eliminate disparity and discrimination in the health sector to enhance equity which provides everyone with equal chances of receiving quality health care as presented herein.
My major interest in healthcare studies if addressing the issue of health disparities among the Asian American communities, mainly focusing on the Koreans. The Koreans living in the United State are considered among the minority group with the smallest population of the foreign citizens living in the state thus creating my interest of study (Hyeong, Miyamura, & Sentell, 2015 – Research Paper Writing Help Service). This community is considered to have a higher life expectancy than any other community found in United State despite the challenges in accessing quality healthcare services. The major health problem associated with the group is the recorded increasing rate of cancer disease among them. A high death rate associated with cancer disease has been recorded over years among the Koreans in the United State. The situation can be associated with difficulties to access to quality health care that deals with cancer management and treatment, a situation that can be considered as the disparity in healthcare provision.
Healthy people, 2020 plays a major role in ensuring the eradication of disparity in the healthcare sector and enhance equity in the system regardless of the race and ethnic group of an individual. It is the right of every individual to access quality and affordable care, an approach that would help in improving global health. The role of healthy people 2020 is to ensure the provision of improved health among all the groups without discrimination. It aims at reducing the gap between the rich and poor with reference to healthcare services.
Healthy People 2020 applies four basic elements that ensure a reduction in disparities among the Korean community in relation to the provision of healthcare services. The major goals and objectives of the Healthy people 2020 are first to ensure that every individual can lead a healthy life. This is achieved by ensuring the provision of quality and affordable health that prolongs people’s lives. Healthy people 2020 also provides an equitable social and physical environment that fits every individual thus promoting improved health among the Koreans.
Members of the public ensure the creation of awareness for health determinants through identification of health improvement strategies across the nation and provide measurable goals and objectives that would ensure health improvement at both state and national level. The healthy people 2020 ensures that health determinants are phrased in a way that they bring appropriate interaction between an individual’s health and the cultural and personal aspects of life. Disease management includes creating an interaction between biological and ecological approaches to dealing with diseases. The other major objective of the Healthy people 2020 is to ensure a streamlined increase in life expectancy of the entire community through eradication of disparities in the healthcare systems.
Different agencies are working in hand with the state and federal governments to ensure eradication of disparities in the healthcare systems. Among these agencies include the Agency of Health Care and Research, Agency of Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and Office of the Secretary, Food and Drug Administration. Other agencies are the Program Support Center and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
