Terrorist Financing and the Role of the Media

My own personal beliefs about the role of the media in the “War on Terror” is that the media is going to tell only one side to create madness. This is a really touchy subject for me because I am so fed up with the media. I have stopped watching all news and deleted face book.Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness Luke 11:34 ESV. People should stay away from news right now if they do not understand that they are reporting opinions not facts right now.  I feel that all the news stations are democratic trying to create problems and push for socialism. Once again I will state that this is just my own personal beliefs.

I do believe that terrorism and the media have a symbiotic relationship. The new is suppose to be reporting facts but they are also there to entertain according to the Presentation: The Role of Media. The media and the terrorist are using each other. The terrorist are using the news to seem bigger then what they are. They are also trying to get their message out whether you agree with it or not and try to recruit others. I read an article on line that says, the problem does not lie in why the media covers terrorism, but lies in how the media covers terrorism. It is large the case that the media covers terrorist acts by writing sensation-seeking, enlarging anecdotes stories, especially on who is to blame, repeating the same images over and over again, separating physical and mental health consequences of disasters and creating new syndromes ( Vasterman, Yzermans, and Dirkzwager 2005). On top of all that the media also traumatizes the audience by exaggerating the threats.

This topic is one that is quite close to may heart as I believe that the media will single handedly divide our country. I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil (Psalms 101: 3-4). From experience the media is never given the full story when it comes to anything involving the security of the country to begin with. They are only given cliff notes with vague details by members of the White House in order to steer the narrative that the action that was taken was justified. That is if the media is given any information at all. How can you fact check the accuracy of an event that only a small handful of people in the world knew about? You cant so the media just reports what they are given and the views are non the wiser. Other times media information can ruin operations, strategies, or expose those involved in what was otherwise an event that should have remained secretive for the safety of those involved. I am a firm believer in there are only certain things that citizens of the United States have the right or privilege to know for the sake of the safety and security of the country. Terrorism and the media certainly have a symbiotic relationship because the whole idea of a terror attack it to take credit for the actions. If the media simply did not report it, dramatize it, or advertise it there would be no way for them to claim victory over their cause. Domestic terrorism works the same way, if you look at school shootings, we hear the name of the shooter over and over again throughout the coverage. We should provide no coverage to the name of the offender and simply televise those who have fallen victim. The media is a company, companies need to make money, media companies make their money through advertising. Who would want to advertise with a company that they didn’t believe in what they were saying. What ends up happening is that media outlets become hostage to their advertisers and we only end up hearing the angle or the version that the advertisers want us to hear. For example, why would a pharmaceutical company pay for advertising with a conservative news network if the republican party is trying to bring down the pharmaceutical companies for over charging for prescriptions. “voluntary self‐restraint and self‐regulation by the media are the best policy options for a democratic society in regard to the media’s response to terrorism, but that the mass media need to work harder at devising measures of self‐restraint that are both appropriate and effective (Wilkinson, 2007).
