How to talk about the problem of more teen pregnancies
Framing is important if you want to find and change things in your community that are contributing to big problems and then put your plans into action. In macro social work, there are three main framing tasks: diagnosing, predicting, and getting people to change (Netting et al., 2017). A social worker can help solve problems in the community by using a framework to look at them from a big picture point of view. This paper’s main focus is on prognostic framing, where suggestions are made for how to deal with the problem of teen pregnancies. The goal of the program is to bring together different organizations and people who want to help NYC’s young people live better lives. Teenage pregnancies lead to other problems in society, like more teens using drugs, more mothers dying, and more teens acting out, so plans should be made to deal with the problem.
There are different ways to look at a social problem because they are often caused by more than one thing. When a problem is framed and reframed, the practitioner can approach it with an open mind and look for solutions that work for the specific problem in the target community. Before putting plans into action, a social worker should be willing to learn from the community about how to make the projects last. There are many reasons why the number of teenage pregnancies is going up. For example, poverty, social stigma, mental illness, peer pressure, insecurity, poor parental supervision, not knowing the dangers of early pregnancies, and drug abuse are all things that can lead to teen pregnancy (Kaphagawani & Kalipeni, 2017). The above things can be put into three groups: social, economic, and cultural. But steps can be taken to get rid of the risk factors by putting in place policies or making programs to help groups that are at risk.
Teen pregnancies are going down in New York City (NYC) because strategies have been put in place to fight the problem. A survey showed that the number of pregnancies among 15–19-year-olds in New York City dropped by 60%, or about 16000, between 2000 and 2015 – Research Paper Writing Help Service. The Neighborhood Health Action Centers (NHAC) study looked at teens who went to schools in areas with action centers. The health department set up the NHAC as a department to work with the community to improve the health of the area. Teens of Black, Hispanic, and Asian descent were most likely to get pregnant in poor neighborhoods (Fisher et al., 2019: 2024 – Online Assignment Homework Writing Help Service By Expert Research Writers). People who live in poor neighborhoods have incomes that are below the federal poverty level.
The goal of the state coalition is to lower the number of teen pregnancies in New York City by giving information and education about how to prevent teen pregnancies and working with programs that advocate for youth health issues at the state and national levels. The goal of the program is to cut down on teen pregnancies among sexually active teens from different groups who live in poor areas. The goal will be reached by making sure that sexually active teens have access to family planning services. Also, the program will try to get sponsorship programs for the at-risk group by working with the school administration where they are enrolled, partnering with other community groups and businesses that offer mentorship, and giving the at-risk group opportunities to “shadow” people who work in the field they are interested in.
Ways to deal with teen pregnancies
The program will be successful in the long run if it works with and coordinates other community efforts to improve the health of young people. It will also give the program a chance to learn from the successes and failures of the network that is already in place. But there should be an open line of communication between the programs so that they can keep each other up to date and avoid overlapping responsibilities and efforts. Coordination can also save both time and money.
The program also wants to work with school administrators and teachers in middle and high schools with high rates of teen pregnancy. The goal would be to make sure that students have access to health care and that seminars are held to teach teens about the dangers of STDs, abortions, the importance of safe sex, and the bad effects of having kids too young (Mollborn, 2010 – Essay Writing Service: Write My Essay by Top-Notch Writer). The program will put the ideas into action in schools that don’t have their own health centers. The programs will make sure that the teens know where they can get contraception and condoms and other things that can help them take care of their health.
Teens will be able to learn about the dangers of teen pregnancy through self-help programs that are part of the initiative. Teens will learn how to be sexually responsible with the help of these resources. Also, the websites will be checked every day to answer questions and get ideas from teens and their parents about how to keep crime from happening in their neighborhoods. Using GPS technology, NYC teens will be able to get mobile apps with a clinic locator that will lead them to places where they can get free condoms (Spear & Lock, 2003). The app also tells young people when clinics near them offer free pregnancy tests, emergency and oral contraceptives, and limited reproductive health services.
The goal of the program is to use the already established network of opportunities in the community. This is done by coordinating between the service groups that are working with the target group to make sure they work together. The program will recognize and build on the community’s existing connections. It will also bring in new allies and resources to help streamline the network, fill gaps, and meet needs that aren’t being met. The only programs that will be included are those that help lower the rate or have a good chance of meeting the goals. The goal is to get the whole community involved in putting the solutions into place. This will make it more likely that teens, parents, teachers, and religious leaders will follow the rules. Coordination in real time gives people the freedom to choose activities and schedules that are realistic and interesting to the target group. Working on a network that is already set up saves time and money because you don’t have to find new resources.
The program tries to get money from the federal government to run campaigns that back up programs that work to improve health care for young people. The NYC Health Department’s Office of School Health and Bureau of Maternal, Infant, and Reproductive Health will work closely with the program. The people in charge of the program also try to get money from private donors and private charities. The program will work closely with other programs that deal with things like drug abuse, which is a risk factor for youth crime and delinquency (Basch, 2011). Also, the program will work with community projects that help people with mental health problems who live in poor areas.
Conclusion
Practitioners frame problems because they can be seen from different angles and are caused by many different things at the same time. A one-dimensional approach would be useless because it would make it harder to use an approach that includes everyone. In a macro-level social approach, there are three main framing tasks: motivating, predicting, and diagnosing. Diagnostic is about finding a problem and figuring out what it is. Prognostic is about coming up with solutions or plans for the problem that has been found, and motivational is about getting people to support change in the community. Teen pregnancies in New York City have been going down since policies and programs were put in place to make people more aware of the dangers of getting pregnant at a young age.
But in some neighborhoods, especially those where people make less than the federal poverty level, there are a lot of teen pregnancies. Also, there are a lot of teen pregnancies in places with a lot of Hispanic, Black, and Asian people. There are social, economic, and cultural factors that lead to teens getting pregnant. Some ways to stop teen pregnancies are to work with the programs that are already in place to improve youth health, to lobby for money from private businesses, local programs, and the federal government to promote safe sex, and to give families information through self-help tools like mobile apps and websites. Social workers should look at social problems with an open mind so they can learn more about them and come up with effective solutions.
