Federal Versus State Laws

First and Last Name

Federal Versus State Laws
The United States is a combination of various nations which are headed by governors while the State is headed by the president. Congress makes the federal laws, on the basis of the US constitution, which are concerned with the national defense, interstate trade, and foreign affairs (Curtis 57). The state laws are made by the independent constituent state governments, and they focus on issues of the residents, businesses, and corporations that operate within their jurisdiction. The two laws have different impacts on the citizens of the US.
The federal laws protect American nationalities by ensuring a favorable environment for living and development (Curtis, 61). For instance, the Fair Labor Standards Act facilitates a minimum wage for American workers and ensures that overtime hours are paid. The act was introduced in order to reduce underpayment for staff members who were assigned difficult tasks, yet the value of money they received could not compensate for the work done. This allows fairness and flexibility in job places. It also minimizes overworking the workers, thus giving them time to relax.
State laws protect the interest of the residents of that nation. For example, the state of Texas does not collect personal income taxes from the residents. The government generates revenue from sales tax and reducing its expenses on social programs and infrastructure (Curtis 66). This helps in saving money, which covers the lack of income taxes. It also relieves the locals from the substantial burden of taxes, which in many states is left to the public.
In a nutshell, the federal laws differ from the state laws since they are made by different branches of government. Each member state of the United States is sovereign and makes its state law according to its charter. Federal law is made by created by Congress under the constitution of the US. However, both laws are made with the purpose of protecting the citizens of the State.
