Discussion: Need Statement, Goals, and Objectives
This Discussion will be available from Day 1 through Day 7 of this week. You are required to
submit your initial post by Day 3. You are encouraged to post early. Once you have submitted
your initial post, start responding to your colleagues. You must begin responding to your
colleagues by no later than Day 5 and should continue to interact frequently with your
colleagues through Day 7. Part of what makes a discussion a discussion and not a lecture is the
back-and-forth, in-depth, animated interaction of at least two people. If you start a topic and
none of your peers are responding to your post, consider what you can do to get the
conversation going. Include something that would elicit further thoughts and different opinions
from peers. Validate your opinions with references and links to the sources you used so that
your peers can read them for themselves. See your Discussion Rubric in the Course Information

A well-written, funder-focused need statement is the most important element of a proposal. An
effective need statement must be supported by data that reflects a thorough and accurate
review of the literature and provides proof of need. Objectives are specific and measurable
steps that must be achieved if that project is to reach its specified goals.
With this in mind, review your project description in the Week 2 Assignment, the specifics of
your selected RFP, and the Chapter 1 information from your course text on the need statement,
goals, and objectives. In addition, review the definitions of a goal, objective, outcomes, and
outputs in the grant-focused glossaries listed in the Week 1 Learning Resources. Consider
feedback to previous Discussions as well as any feedback to assignments that have been
returned from your Instructor.
In this Discussion, you will share your project need statement, goals, and objectives. Make sure
that all three parts of the posting are aligned to guidelines and requirements contained in the
RFP.
By Day 3
Post your project need statement, goals, and objectives.

Finalize Selection of a Project: Request for funding
Description of the Project
Within the context of patient management, there are various tools that can be used in the evaluation of diseases. Genograms, which are essentially instruments that can be used to view problems across various generations in a family through the examination of multiple contextual levels (Butler, 2008 – Affordable Custom Essay Writing Service | Write My Essay from Pro Writers), provide a quicker way of understanding problems that can affect illnesses and gives physicians an opportunity not only to diagnose, but also to address the risk factors in a more conventional way. Hence, the project at hand involves the provision of knowledge on the role of genograms within the hospital setup. The research tries to educate physicians and family counselors to adopt genograms as a tool that can be used in evaluating patients and identifying risk factors that form part of the illness and its presentation.
The need to pursue the Genogram Project
Family history remains one of the fundamental aspects of history taking by physicians worldwide. In an effort to link diseases and ill-health to environmental, psychosocial and genetic risk factors, doctors often try to establish a certain aspect of a patient’s history. However, an average physician only spends 15-20 minutes during the whole history taking, and this often leads to the dedication of only a minute or two to family history (Schilson, Braun & Hudson, 1993). As such, significantly information often gets left out that can play an essential role in the management of the illness and elimination of risk factors to prevent relapses.
As stated by Schilson, Braun, and Hudson (1993), the process of creating a genogram during a counseling or history taking session can be therapeutic. However, most clinicians do not understand its role or why it is needed within the healthcare setup. To a great extent, there exists little research on the concept of genograms, and this remains an important challenge as it prevents people from understanding its role and promoting its incorporation into all levels of patient care and management (Dyer & McKean, 2016: 2024 – Do my homework – Help write my assignment online). It is due to these challenges that the proposal aims at bringing the concept of genograms into the limelight and providing a nationwide education and awareness. Such a move, however noble it may be, requires funding for it to succeed and be adopted by the relevant stakeholders.
Why the Project is better than the Existing Approaches
Currently, physicians only rely on scanty information that is provided during the various history taking and counseling sessions to get information about family dynamics and causes of illnesses. Such information is often presented through the use of family trees and diagrams, as well as social lives of patients and their immediate family members. According to Schilson, Braun & Hudson (1993), the use of genograms remains superior as it captures more information about the structure of the patient’s family, major life events, family relationships and other repetitive illnesses that can then be built on to arrive at a substantial diagnosis. In addition, genograms provide clues to the existing system dysfunctions and can also be used to connect clients and their family members in a way that allows for the creation of a strong foundation for therapy.
Accordingly, family structures, as presented by the Bowen family systems, only show that families are emotional units. Such a presentation does not include several other factors such as cultural contexts, economy, genetic structures and other factors that can be linked to disease emergence (Willow, Tobin & Toner, 2009). On the other hand, genograms are important in that they highlight all the multiple levels of context from which diseases and disease-causing risks are embedded. Hence, this shows that the use of genograms instead of family structures can revolutionize how patients are approached and managed.
Besides, genograms have various computer software and programs that can be used to create them, unlike family diagrams. These programs include SmartDraw, Wonderware, GenoPro and Genogram-Maker Millennium (Schilson, Braun & Hudson, 1993). They are easy to install and use with basic operating systems such as windows. In addition, these programs are safe from viruses and malicious software that can damage them and render them useless. Furthermore, the programs exist as shareware, and this means they can be easily distributed within a healthcare setup and used to manage patients within a short span.
Request of Funding of the Genogram Project
Therefore, it is our humble request that you help in funding the genogram project to enable the dissemination of knowledge in the various media platforms and also to purchase the various programs to be distributed to the public hospitals. Currently, the project requires $25,000 from implementation to closure and we strongly believe that with your help, we can transform the approach to patient management and care.

Need Statement
The genogram project is responsible for reviewing the family history and background to gain a better understanding of the health of the patients. Over the years, patients have been exposed to risks of relapsing into past health conditions due to the lack of comprehensive patient history information (CDC, 2011). The project will be used in determining the patient’s history to link potential diseases to the genetic, psychosocial, and environmental factors. The family history information will be significant in promoting the overall management of potential illness and the total elimination of health risks. Most importantly, the family genogram will be useful during counseling sessions as well as promoting education and awareness in the society.
Project Goals and Objectives
The overall goals of the genogram project are to improve the process of patient care and management. It will focus on the gathering and improve the assessment of the patient’s medical history to improve health of the patients. The project will also seek to work with other stakeholders in integrating to improve the dissemination and distribution of the medical information in the hospitals.
The objectives of the project will help in improving the overall patient care and management process. They project will seek
• To improve gathering and collection of patient medical history. Individual patients might have suffered from certain illnesses in the past. Such illness might recur adversely affecting their health (Stokes, 2014: 2024 – Essay Writing Service. Custom Essay Services Cheap). Understanding the medical history will gather adequate medical information that could be used for their future medical treatment and interventions.
• To maximize the use of genograms in promoting national education and awareness. The concepts of genograms enable practitioners to learn about the various medical patterns and expand awareness on the various patient conditions.
• To integrate various computer software and programs to promote the management of patient care. The operating systems and programs will increase the efficiency of distributing health care setups and programs (Ward, 2014: 2024 – Essay Writing Service. Custom Essay Services Cheap).
