You’ve received some feedback about your risk analysis so let’s take that feedback, along with your risk analysis from Task 2 and turn it towards looking at ethics, specifically, information technology ethics. We’re not talking dinosaur Skynet here (although that would be fun 😉 but everyday, ordinary ethics that can make the difference between feeling good or bad about yourself when you look in the mirror. One thing to keep in mind is that ethics and regulations or laws are not necessarily the same thing. There are regulations that don’t address ethical concerns and for some ethical concerns there are no regulations at all. Not addressing security concerns is unethical, but there are IT-related ethical issues that go beyond security. So, what you’ve discovered during Task 2 does not cover everything related to ethics.Note: some people use the terms “ethics” and “morality” interchangeably and some draw a distinction – it’s a preference thing as semantically they are the same word: http://theethicsguy.com/2013/06/20/ethics-vs-morality/#more-2635 – the word “ethics” seems to appeal to a broader audience.You’ve learned about digital ethics from the Gartner Field Trips and the Read and Watch sections. Task 4 is straightforward: you need to identify ethical issues, related to information technology, that will affect your Park Area (at least five, but more is better), identify the stakeholders involved, and come up with scenarios for how to deal with these issues. An example ethical issue – not directly related to IT Ethics – might look like this: “Attendance is down. Medallia survey data indicates visitors are bored with the selection of dinosaurs. The corporate office thinks creating a new genetic hybrid dinosaur in the lab would up the ‘wow’ factor and drive attendance numbers up.” Who would the stakeholders be, generally? How would you deal with this issue?Most important, how do you persuade the leadership of your Park Area that paying attention to ethics is worthwhile?
