Why is integration between data collection and business analysis so important to success in an organization that uses business analytics? How can a company that is just starting to use business analytics setup their program for success right from the beginning?

Data integration between collection and business analysis is important to success in an organization because the combination of data from different sources provides a full picture. An organization is a group of different departments and areas, which generate and consume different data. To get an overall picture of how strategic initiatives are working it’s necessary to look at the organization as a whole and data integration allows for this. Integration of data also provides one source of truth for the different departments. While someone might track something on a spread sheet, in one department another person might be tracking the same thing on a different spreadsheet and getting different results, due to different definitions. This conflicting information doesn’t provide a clear picture of how the organization is doing. A company just starting use business analytics can set their program up for success right from the beginning, by defining the strategic targets and the key metrics that will be used to measure the results, and ensuring that the data is accessible to be used.
