Critique of Criminal Justice Profession

A two page critique of a law enforcement or criminal justice profession. The critique should include the role and responsibilities of the profession, the minimum requirements to enter the profession and identifying other role-players the profession interacts with. Critique of Criminal Justice Profession
In criminal justice, there are several professions that one can choose from. Some of these include being an advocate, criminal defense lawyer, Prosecutor, police officer, sheriff, paralegal, criminologist or a private investigator. There are necessary skills required by each of the professions, for instance, if a person wants to become a prosecutor, who is a person who institutes legal proceedings against somebody in a court of law or a lawyer who conducts a specific case against a defendant in a law court, one would require specific skills for that profession.
In becoming a prosecutor, a bachelor’s degree is required. One has to complete law school and pass the bar exam. A specific undergraduate major is not required; therefore, a person can benefit from doing courses that sharpen their skills in critical thinking, writing, and reading (Artello & de Tezanos Pinto, 2017). some of these courses are like English, political science and philosophy. after the undergraduate studies, a person must then attend law school for three years to earn their Juris Doctor degree. The students’ Law School Admission Test scores determine their admission to law school.
The test is used in measuring the qualities required to attend law school by mainly assessing reading, analytical, comprehension and logical reasoning skills as required by the Law School Admission Council. for the full-time students, law school is a three-year commitment. In the first half of law school, learners learn about components of the law that are necessary like torts, contracts and civil procedure. In the final half, they study specialization topics depending on their choice. Some of these include corporate law or tax. Criminal law is also very essential for prosecutors. The Prosecutor then acquires a license by passing the written bar exam after completing the law school.
In most states, one has to have passed the Multistate Bar Examination while others require one to have passed the ethic exams or other state-specific tests. Some of the additional skills required include experience since a prosecutor has to feel comfortable in courtrooms. They must know the needs in their communities and the reasons why lawbreakers commit offenses. A criminal prosecution lawyer must perform a careful research, use discretion and seek justice because a successful prosecution can lead to a person’s loss of rights (Davis, 2018: 2024 – Write My Essay For Me | Essay Writing Service For Your Papers Online). the profession also requires a sense of fairness, civic duty and strong analytical skills.
A prosecutor is responsible for investigating illegalities and is allowed to use tools specially designated for that work, such as a subpoena or a grand jury in acquiring evidence or information. He functions in an adversary system (De Gurmendi, 2017). he acts as a representative of identifiable victims; however, he is also counsel for an artificial client, either the people or government. The prosecutors’ offices are found at the local, federal and state levels (Detotto & McCannon, 2017). the prosecutors work in the District Attorneys’ offices and the Attorney Generals’ offices at the state and local levels while at the federal level, they work for the US Department of Justice.
In conclusion, both public defenders and prosecutors have views that vary concerning how experience is evaluated on the other side. In some cities, especially the larger ones where there are competitive offices, the experience is typically disliked by employers with the opposing side. Many students like exploring both sides since they are not sure which suits them best. The employer looks for skills like clinical experience and law school courses focused on the prosecution, internships on the prosecution, commitment to public service, litigation skills, especially oral advocacy or court experience and writing skills, particularly for appellate positions.
