Creative representation of woman/women/femininity that “says something” about women’s place(s) in the world, in relation to our readings. Using whatever medium you choose (painting, drawing, photography, collage, sculpture, or web-based art) your project must be a visual expression of woman/women/femininity/gender, in accordance with your topic, with what you want to convey about the topic in relation to the course themes.
Accompanying your piece must an explanation or Artist’s Statement that explains the piece’s visual codes, treatments, and methodology, and that incorporates, engages, and argues with 3 or more course readings. 3-5 pages.
You will present your project in person (or for distance students, with photographs or a short video) and a paper that explains the piece and its theoretical meaning in accordance with the themes of the study.
*Specific topics under the broad topic areas will be designed in consultation with me and should reflect your interests and personal and professional goals.
