CHS 201: Creative Activities
Unit 8: Curriculum Web Assignment
For your final project in this course, you will create a Curriculum Web.
What is a Curriculum Web?
A curriculum web is one of many ways to create lesson plans for your early childhood classroom. A curriculum
web does not look like a traditional lesson plan (visually), but instead takes the interests and ideas of the children
into account. Keep in mind, curriculum webs are a planning document, thus some of the components of a
tradition lesson remain: theme, content areas, and objectives.
A basic curriculum web looks like:
Theme
Content Area 2
Objective 1
Objective 2
Activity 2
Content Area 3
Objective 1
Objective 2
Activity 3
Content Area 4
Objective 1
Objective 2
Activity 4
Content Area 1
Objective 1
Objective 2
Activity 1
Requirements for your Curriculum Web:
1. Use the template provided or create your own (remember completed assignments must be uploaded as
.doc or .docx file)
2. Identify the age group of learners your web is designed for (indicate at top of page)
3. Identify 1 (overarching) THEME
a. The theme is the central or main concept being explored by students.
b. It is good practice to identify a theme that is aligns with standards and/or required learning content
for your chosen age group.
4. In each of the following content areas, you will identify two learning objectives and 1 activity related to
your chosen theme.
1. Math
2. Social Studies
3. Literacy
4. Art
5. Music
6. Technology
7. Cooking
Below is an Example to Review:
A brief example for one content area would look like (but you will have 7):
Theme: Ocean Exploration
Identified Age Group: 6 year olds
You may not use this example for your web!
Art
OBJ 1. Children will be able to
name 3 types of fish in the ocean.
OBJ 2. Children will create 1 fish
using materials provided.
Actitivity: Children can choose 1
fish, from ideas generated by
students, and use materials to
create a fish.
