Burglary and Robbery
Burglary is put under the class of property crime, whereas robbery is classified under a violent crime committed against a person. Burglary can also be defined as unlawful or forcible entry, or an entry attempted of a structure with intentions of committing a felony or theft. If a person tries to enter or enter a building without seeking permission and having the intention of committing a crime is generally burglary. The FBI defines robbery as the attempt or taking something of value from the owner, custody, or control of people or a person by force or threat of violence or force and putting or inflicting fear on the victim.
A crime is considered burglary if one, unlawful entry occurs by getting into a private premise without express permission (Lyman, 2018: 2024 – Write My Essay For Me | Essay Writing Service For Your Papers Online). Two, if forcible entry occurs where a person uses other means of entrance other than walking through the permitted open door. Three, if constructive entry occurs, especially if the intention is to commit a crime and as long as any part of their body is inside. Four, if the intent to commit a crime is proven. Five, if any felony or theft occurs. Robbery is classified as a violent crime, and the consequences are stiffer than burglary.
If the crime meets the following criteria, it is then considered as robbery. One, if a person takes or attempts to take property. Two, if anything of value is taken, which also includes anything that is of non-monetary value. Three, if the property is taken from the caregiver or owner. Four, if the victim is inflicted fear or is hurt, and five, the property has to be taken from someone for the crime to be considered robbery. An example of robbery is when someone breaks into a store and orders the clerk to get out through the back, and the robber steals the content of the cash register. An example of burglary is when a trespasser breaks the lock of someone’s house and steals a television.
