Step
1 Don’s Frames is a new company that imports wooden frames and repackages them to supply to a “Discount Shop”
stores across Australia. Don’s Frames have prepared a WHS consultation plan which is issued to each new staff
member. The plan details the chain of consultation that should take place. It defines that any staff member has the
right to consult with any manager in regards to any health and safety matter. The Managing Director, Don, now wants
to include a formal consultation activity in the form of HSR’s. The company employs 30 pickers and packers to unpack
the pallets and repack them into smaller boxes. There is a number of workers that are from non-English speaking
backgrounds. The staff works casually Monday to Thursday in morning and afternoon shifts. Some staff are employed
to undertake minor repairs on the frames that could include the use of a band saw and some hand tools. These staff
will also need to coat the frames in wood sealer/varnish. Don has also mentioned that the last shift of the week will be
involved in a clean up using chemicals such as bleach, window cleaner and other cleaning solutions.
