1.1 Overview of Nigerian ports
After Nigeria’s independence in 1960, the Nigerian economy became one of the fastest growing economies in the world. The first port in Nigeria was the Lagos Port Complex and it was established in the year 1920. The Nigerian ports have a long history which dates back to the pre-colonial period. The Nigerian ports are managed by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), which is an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria that is responsible for the management of the port facilities.
