Benefits and Limitations of Levels of Intervention

Benefits and Limitations of Different Levels of Intervention
Community psychology promotes social change by understanding persons’ quality of life in organizations, institutions, or groups. Its applications can result in positive changes that give solutions to social challenges, thereby improving their quality of life. This paper, therefore, discusses the benefits and limitations at different levels of intervention.
The individual intervention focuses on one person at a time in understanding their behavior in the socio-cultural context. Community psychologists fully direct every available resource towards the successful influence on their lives. The contribution of community psychologists at an individual level is beneficial because they develop one’s self-esteem and personal skills that facilitate personal change. Its limitation is that an individual’s failure leads to the fall of the whole interventions, and all resources go to waste.
Additionally, community intervention promotes a change of behavior in a community context to address social problems. It also emphasizes the significance of participating in the community as a significant process that boosts preparation for change (Hawe, 2017). Its limitations are that there might be resistance from some community members, especially if the interventions are touching on modernization.
Moreover, small-group intervention encourages socially identifying oneself with a group. It fosters internalizing the group’s values and norms, creating a collective perception and shaping behavioral patterns. However, small group interventions are limited to a small number without considering another particular group’s existence.
Besides, organization interventions strengthen an organization’s mission, whether a profit-making or a non-profit making organization. However, organizational interventions are costly since they might involve structural changes which may require finances. On the other hand, lack of funds poses a limitation to the success of the intervention.
In conclusion, these levels have different target populations to make changes in society. These indicate that the extent of social change will depend on the intervention applied. However, each intervention has its benefits and limitations. The success of the community interventions depends on how challenges facing the groups are solved.
