Scenario 1
Lovely has just graduated and obtained her LPN status six months ago. During her break, she overhears Susan and Amar, who are both LPNs, stating that they plan on working at the flu clinic again this year but that it will be short staffed. Lovely would love to help out and despite being a new graduate, feels very comfortable giving parenteral injections.
Scenario 2
Betty, a practical nurse, had a terrible shift at work. She does not mention any patient names, but she does vent about her shift on her Facebook page using some derogatory language. A member of the public sees her posts and reports it to CLPNA.
Scenario 3
Ms. Shaker has been admitted to the hospital due to a chronic medical condition. A part of her treatment plan is a blood transfusion. Samantha, the nurse assigned to care for Ms. Shaker, has personal values and beliefs that conflict with the administration of blood products.
Scenario 4
Manny, a health care aid (HCA) has been working in a long term care facility for 13 years. In the facility, the HCAs and LPNs work as a team to provide care for the client with HCAs often being delegated routine administration of oral medications. Today, Mrs. Wilson told Manny that she has a headache and the routine Tylenol she is taking isn’t helping. Manny has notified Aman, a new LPN, that Mrs. Wilson has a headache and wants something else for pain the pain. Aman, quickly checks the Medication Administration Record and sees that there is a PRN order for Ibuprofen if Mrs. Wilson has any pain. Aman tells Manny to go ahead and give the Ibuprofen to Mrs. Wilson.
Scenario 5
Mr. Singh noticed an unidentified man waiting in a truck on the driveway of his house. When Mr. Singh approached the driver, the driver stated that his name was John and he was the husband of the nurse who was inside taking care of Mr. Singh’s mother. Mr. Singh also noticed multiple client files open and visible on the dashboard of the truck.
