Assignment 1: COVID-19: Impacts on Socialization

Part A

• Using your sociological imagination, explain why the reaction to COVID-19 has been so radical in comparison to previous pandemics. Use at least 2 sources to support your argument. 

Part B

• What effects may this extended period of social distancing have on people’s ability to socialize? That is, will it impair social connection after the restrictions are lifted? 
• What would Durkheim be concerned about during this time? Why? 
• What measures can be taken to reduce the social and psychological impact of mandated social isolation?

Use at least 3 sources to support your responses in Part B.
