Introduction
The Research Project Proposal (RPP) is the Discovery and Research part of the main Team
Project. The work conducted for the Proposal will form the foundation for your final Team
Project Report and Presentation (See figure 1).
Figure 1. ECON8030 Team Project process
This final Team Project is to be presented as an economic paper, consisting of the following
sections:
i. Introduction – project research question (problem) and your approach
ii. Literature Survey – theory/methodology/background
iii. Method/Data – hypothesis/method/data
iv. Results and discussion – analyse results using graphs, charts, tables
v. Discussion – any shortcomings and policy implications.
The RPP is the important first steps (i and ii) of the final project.
Before starting your individual RPP, you must have conducted or completed the following:
1. Team meetings to finalise the specific project question (problem);
2. Assignment of tasks – according to the preferences and/or strengths of members
3. Preliminary research on the agreed focus – to determine the scope of the project
(based on availability of research material, time or human resources)
4. Prediction of outcome(s) – as is relevant to policy
The RPP (Parts A and B) rely on the completion of steps 1 to 4.

Part A – Individual Short Essay
This short essay must be no longer than 800 words (maximum, excluding references), and
must contain a brief introduction and conclusion, and a main body of argument.
The Essay Task:
1. Select at least two (2) journal articles/papers relevant to the focus of your Team
Project. Members of a team cannot have the same articles/papers.
2. Analyse each article/paper, particularly its relevance and importance to your Team
Project. In your analysis, you should compare the authors’ approach, methodology,
and/or results and findings.
Note: Specific formatting requirements will be available on the Unit iLearn page, by clicking
the Turnitin link.
Part B – Individual Three-Minute Pitch
This presentation is an individual task but performed as part of the Team. Each member
must make a pitch (no longer than three minutes) based on the main discovery from Part A.
Importantly, they must maintain consistency with the pitches made by the other members
of their team. This requires teamwork, planning and practice. The team pitch will be
followed by questions from the class.
The Pitch Task:
1. Each member must put forward and present a main discovery (including one or two
important findings) from their research in Part A. A ‘main discovery’ is one that
contributes importantly to their Team Project. This might be in terms of a theoretical
approach, valuable background, a reliable method, some useful data or policy
analysis.
2. Discuss what each member intends to pitch. Repetition and/or contradictions will
lead to a reduction in marks to those members. That is, members of a team cannot
have the same or incoherent ‘main discovery’ to other members of the team.
Note: Specific presentation requirements will be available on the Unit iLearn page, by
clicking on the Order of Pitch link.
