Adolescents Sleep Quality and Internet Addiction
The selected article is Agarwal et al. (2020) on sleep quality and internet addiction among adolescents. The purpose of the essay is to examine internet addiction and its impact on the quality of sleep. The study findings indicate that internet addiction and using mobile devices at night interferes with the soothing process of sleeping. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was vital in assessing the quality of sleep. The results suggest that a high level of poor quality sleep was evident among adolescents with internet addiction.
One of the experts contributing to the study is Pies (2009). According to the expert, internet addiction has been on the rise and was categorized as a health issue. Griffiths et al. (1998) indicate that internet addiction is likely to be in the following Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders edition. Kandell et al. (1998) suggest that internet addiction is a psychological dependence on the internet. Addiction affects the quality of life of individuals.
I would contribute to the discussion from a scholarship perspective by outlining the available data on sleep quality and internet addiction. Adolescents have a sufficient sleep due to the risk of watching cartoons, playing games, and chatting on social media. I would contribute from a personal perspective by giving my example personal experience. I was addicted to my phone, and I could not secure enough sleep.
I appreciate that scholarship is an ongoing conversation since it keeps evolving. Scholars can provide different perspectives according to their research. It is essential to ensure scholarship is evolving since it will generate fresh ideas and perspectives. Research does not end with one research, but it is ongoing and provides more opportunities to generate more ideas.
