Critical Reflection Activity 11.1
My responses on the healthy places survey are positive and shows that my workplace environment is positive and supports a healthy lifestyle. Healthy eating is one of the areas that is going well. In the last few years, I have been cautious to take the right foods including avoiding junk foods to help in improving my overall health. Healthy eating leads to good health that improves workplace performance and productivity. However, I will need to improve on my physical activity. My physical health is not good and I believe engaging in more physical activities and exercises will help in improving my performance in the workplace. Both engaging in physical activities and healthy eating will improve my ability to perform well in the workplace environment.
Workplace environment have a significant impact on the project management processes. It is because the workplace culture influences the project planning, coordination, control, and evaluation process. For example, the presence of diverse cultures in the workplace would affect the operations of the project management processes. Creating a positive workplace environment would assists in improving the efficiency of project management processes.
Post 1: Akshay
Akshay explains that he performed well in terms of physical activity. The former workplace at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital had quality indoor facilities that made it possible for him to improve his physical activity including table tennis and badminton. The discussion also explains the need for flexible work schedules to give the employees time to engage in physical activities during the work off hours4. The organization also make efforts to fund the various initiatives for the patients dealing with health conditions such as cancers.
The main area that required improvement in the workplace was healthy eating. Healthy eating is a serious challenge to most workers due to pressure of work culture that limits time to cook healthy foods. Akshay noted that the workplace did not have access to healthy foods. The presence of flexible work schedules also make it possible to improve the wellbeing of the employees3. The post also comprehensive detailed that healthy eating aspect needed some improvement. The organization was able to provide water to workers, but there was no nearby restaurants offering healthy foods.
Most importantly, the discussion explain the need for the healthy eating policies to help in improving positive workplace culture. With improved healthier habits and happier employees, it will be possible to improve the overall project management processes1. Thus, the health policies and having improved services is critical to inspire positive productivity and job satisfaction.
Post 3: Eliza
Eliza details a comprehensive analysis of the healthy places survey results. The area that was successful was the implementation of smoke-free policy. All smokers complied with the policy and thus, it helped in improving the overall physical health4. However, healthy eating and physical activity areas had poor results that implied there was an need for improvement. The post explains that the access to limited healthy food options is always a significant problem to the health of the employees. The organization did not organize physical activity options during the working hours that made it challenging to improve the physical health of the employees.
It is recommendable for the organization to avail healthy food options. Most importantly, Eliza was able to determine that workplace environment has serious implication on the project management processes2. The improvement of the project management processes would be possible if the organization tackled the culture concerns of unhealthy eating and physical activity.
Post 4:
Nicolette explains that a health promotion program with her hospital worked well in improving physical activity amongst the employees. The hospital had invested in facilities to encourage the employees to engage in physical activities. The organization also provided clean and improved the change rooms that helped in encouraging the employees to use active transport options at the hospital1. However, Nicolette did not explains an area required an improvement based on the healthy survey. The identification of area of improvement would have helped in improving the overall physical activity and health success.
Additionally, the post explains how an app was introduced to help in improving the psychological working conditions. The app worked well in improving emotional and psychological growth when implemented during the busy days. Optimal patient care from the emotional and psychological approach helped to improve productivity. Nicolette determined that improved psychological working conditions had a positive influence on improving the success of the project management processes1.
Post 5: Kristen
Kristen explains that the organization was able to effectively implement a smoke-free policy for the employees and patients in the last 8 years. The enforcement of the policy helped to ensure that people working in the organization and patient as well were safe. However, the discussion highlights that the policy needed some improvement implying it did not yield significant results2. The discussion should have explained how the smoke-free policy was successful in reducing the contamination of the workplace environment.
Kristen’s area of improvement was on healthy eating. Largely, healthy eating is based on the ability of the employees to choose healthy foods. The organization should ensure that healthy food choices are available in the cafeteria. Only unhealthy food products and items were available in the cafeteria make it unhealthy for the workers3. The post is reliable in recommending for positive workplace environments that supports teamwork and improved communication to enhance project management success.
