The aim of this assignment is to give you an opportunity to demonstrate an understanding
of critical reflection as a means of self-evaluation to support personal and professional
growth as a clinical teacher.
Instructions:
DESCRIPTION:
For this task you are required to write a 1500 word reflective essay. In your essay you
need to:
1. apply the Gibbs Reflective Cycle to reflect on a time when you facilitated a
clinical teaching activity for peers, students, patients or others in the working
environment, referring to literature related to learning, teaching, assessment,
evaluation and feedback
2. provide recommendations for practice and professional development.
TASK INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Reflect on a time when you facilitated a clinical teaching activity for peers,
students, patients or others in the working environment.
2. Provide a brief introduction outlining the clinical teaching experience you are using
as a basis for this reflection.
3. Use the following stages of Gibbs’ reflective cycle to discuss this experience:
Description- Describe what happened.
Feelings – Analyse your thoughts and feelings during and after the experience.
Relate these to relevant literature.
Evaluation – What were the positive and negative outcomes in the situation?
Analysis – Highlight the factors involved in the situation

• An understanding of educational theory, models and principles by including a
discussion of how these were applied.
• How the theories you applied in your teaching aligned with the strategies you
used to deliver the teaching session.
• Understanding of the role of assessment, evaluation and feedback in the clinical
teaching role
5. Complete the essay with a recommendations section.
